When teaching a primigravid client with diabetes about common causes of hyperglycemia during pregnancy, which of the following would the nurse include?

      Hi, Len:

I'm really only supposed to answer questions related to our course. What is your answer? Why did you select this response? If you send me your response and rationale, I will confirm or suggest an alternative.

You could always ask the community for their thoughts :-)

      Regards,

      Susan

      hi susan!

      thanks for responding...

we just had a lil conversation with my friend who is reviewing for philippine nursing licensure exam.

im asking cos they dont have rationales yet on this question.

my answer is infection, & my friend's answer is obesity.

i tried to look @ the internet, & says both obesity & infection but they dont have explanations too.

urghh... me too, i cant explain why my answer is infection.

what do u think is the best answer?

I would select fetal macrosomia (defined as a birth weight greater than 8 lb 13 oz). Having a large baby increases risks during L&D (often requiring a C-section). Macrosomia is a common complication of hyperglycemia (which is why all pregnant women are now screened for diabetes).

A maternal medical risk factor for preeclampsia is preexisting diabetes. I could not find data to support that gestational diabetes can cause "pregnancy-induced hypertension".  Obesity after conception doesn't make sense to me.

Once again...this is the last time I can answer a question from another source since we don't endorse or comment on other NCLEX sources and encourage you to follow up directly with them on your questions regarding the content.

      Best wishes!
