I am seeking input from faculty at other institutions regarding the length of time you allow for students to take a test. Does anyone have a policy regarding time limit on testing. If so, would you mind sharing some of the details and whether or not you use computer testing within your program.

Dear Sabietime,
I have a couple of thoughts on your question. The first that I was taught in my Master's program was to give 1.36 minutes per a question. The second is in practice we give 1.5 minutes per a question for 60 questions which is approximately 90 minutes or 1 1/2 hours for an exam. We have extended as long as 2 hours if we are requesting the students to do a care plan with an exam.
We have done a couple of computer tests. We have used the 1.5 minutes per a question for our course exams. We have also utilized ATI testing which is a time test with just a little over a minute per a questions.
I hope this helps.

Dear Sabietime;
I teach in a Progressive Track Course and we give 1.5 hour for a 75 question test which is basically 1.2 minute per question. We,also, utilize Collaborative testing after the exam is submitted. The students are given 30 minutes to participate in this activity. Collaborative testing is only for the Unit tests. The groups receive 1 point if their efforts result in an A or 0.5 points for a B. We do not utilize computer testing . They are,however, required to pass the PN Exit exam prior to completing the PN track or the RN Exit exam prior to graduating from the RN program. These are ATI based tests.
I hope this helps.
