They both help and complement each other. NCSBN helps me with the NCLEX "content" and Kaplan helps me with the NCLEX "strategy".
What will really help you is "yourself". What I mean by that is you can have all the strategies to answer the questions and all the nursing knowledge but if you really don't put yourself in it you will not make it.
You have to have a study plan. A month before taking your NCLEX exam, your NCLEX review books and papers should become your husband, wife, child, mother, father.
I wish I can tell you more about the NCLEX exam. I have decided, to help some nursing studentrs, by posting some advice under "For Nursing Students" at www.grelu.com.

Content:Hello Everyone!! I took my NCLEX-RN Exam for the second time 10/4/11 And passed with 120 Questions!!!! I would like to share with you all my study strategy...I signed up for NCSBN's 5 week course and practiced ALL of the Questions and READ all of the Rationales. I read through most of the content in the lessons, but the bulk of my content based knowledge also came from the Saunders review book. I studied every day for about 8-10 hours. I made index cards on the major diseases in Neuro, Muscloskeletal, Pediatrics, Cardiac, and Mental Health. I would advise you to know how to prioritze care and know your infection control!
Here is a list of the sources I used to prepare:
1. Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX-RN EXAMINATION by Linda Silvestri 5th edition ( study by system and meds by system as well instead of all over the place)
2. Lippincott's Q&A Review for NCLEX-RN by Diane Billings 10th Edition (do as much questions as possible from different systems)
3. Frye's 3300 Nursing Bullets NCLEX-RN BY Charles Frye 6th Edition (very helpful and easy to carry while on the go)
4. Last but not least NCSBN's exceptional review course (choose any amount weeks you see fit)

Study Strategy posted August 22, 2011 by missindiaContent:Hi friends, I just wanted to share my NCLEX experience with you guys, as a recent graduate from nursing school on 8/4/2011 when I started to see all the review books out there I was frustated and overwhelmed, I study hard at school and always maintained a 4.8 GPS for the last 14 monts, now I have to do this again!! I decided that I will not review anything that I learned, I joined the ncsbn 3 weeks course one and half weeks ago and scheduled my tesy on 8/20/11, I did not review the study material but did the practice questions, I did read Kaplan strategies though, did review my labs and insuline and thats it, not a single drug or math, no peds or ob no med-surg, from my school ATT I was on level 3 most of them and prediction was 99% chance of passing nclex, I trusted them and also trusted ncsbn course, that I will face same formate of questions, when I sat for my exam on this Saturday I was a little sad because I got lots of fundamental questions that I haven't study for long!! but I kept on going, lots of SATA, math ( thank God I am good at it), came home , did the PearsonVue trick and got the good pop up, got my quick result this morning and I PASS!!!! I wanted to thank ncsbn for being soooo reliable and dependable. So for my fellow nclex taker here is my study strtegy, if you know your nursing basics and practice and understand these 1000 questions from ncsbn learning extension, then you will pass your board, have faith, we have the power of knowledge and its time to apply it!!!!

Content:I took the 3 week online RN course and found it to be very organized and easy to navigate. I took my RN boards 2 times before studying for my 3rd with this program. I've tried about everything there is out there. I started out using the Kaplan review online that costs $500.00 and guarentees that you pass or your money back, needless to say I got my money back. The second time I used random study NCLEX- RN books which seemed to help but there was something missing. This time I went into it feeling a little down and unsure if I could even be a nurse. I started this program 3 weeks out and read through all of the testimonials to see how I should approach this. I found that reading through all of the topics word-for - word and taking the post quizzes worked for me. **** I also read EACH and EVERY rationale**** that was the most important. I completed every step of the program and that is what got me thinking on track and kept me thinking the way I needed to inorder to get the questions right. I also used Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment: Practice Exercises for the NCLEX Examination by Linda A. LaCharity Ph.D.. It was very helpful! You must stay positive tell yourself " I am going to do this, I am smart!" each and everyday. Remain stress free.
