The truth and the whole truth about studying and pass NCLEX1

You should develop your own strategic way to study.  I took the NCSBN online course and I also took the Kaplan course also. They both help and complement each other. NCSBN helps me with the NCLEX "content" and Kaplan helps me with the NCLEX "strategy".

What will really help you is "yourself". What I mean by that is you can have all the strategies to answer the questions and all the nursing knowledge but if you really don't put yourself in it you will not make it.

You have to have a study plan. A month before taking your NCLEX exam, your NCLEX review books and papers should become your husband, wife, child, mother, father.

I wish I can tell you more about the NCLEX exam. I have decided, to help some nursing studentrs, by posting some advice under "For Nursing Students" at www.grelu.com.

RN, BSN!!!!!!! I DID IT MY SECOND TIME!100%

Hello Everyone!! I took my NCLEX-RN Exam for the second time 10/4/11 And passed with 120 Questions!!!! I would like to share with you all my study strategy...I signed up for NCSBN's 5 week course and practiced ALL of the Questions and READ all of the Rationales. I read through most of the content in the lessons, but the bulk of my content based knowledge also came from the Saunders review book. I studied every day for about 8-10 hours. I made index cards on the major diseases in Neuro, Muscloskeletal, Pediatrics, Cardiac, and Mental Health. I would advise you to know how to prioritze care and know your infection control!

Here is a list of the sources I used to prepare:

    1. Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX-RN EXAMINATION by Linda Silvestri 5th edition ( study by system and meds by system as well instead of all over the place)

    2. Lippincott's Q&A Review for NCLEX-RN  by Diane Billings 10th Edition (do as much questions as possible from different systems)

    3. Frye's 3300 Nursing Bullets NCLEX-RN BY Charles Frye 6th Edition (very helpful and easy to carry while on the go)

    4. Last but not least NCSBN's exceptional review course (choose any amount weeks you see fit)

P.S. I would like to thank MS. Susan for answering all of my questions and helping me throughout this journey!

Hi friends, I just wanted to share my NCLEX experience with you guys, as a recent graduate from nursing school on 8/4/2011 when I started to see all the review books out there I was frustated and overwhelmed, I study hard at school and always maintained a 4.8 GPS for the last 14 monts, now I have to do this again!! I decided that I will not review anything that I learned, I joined the ncsbn 3 weeks course one and half weeks ago and scheduled my tesy on 8/20/11, I did not review the study material but did the practice questions, I did read Kaplan strategies though, did review my labs and insuline and thats it, not a single drug or math, no peds or ob no med-surg, from my school ATT I was on level 3 most of them and prediction was 99% chance of passing nclex, I trusted them and also trusted ncsbn course, that I will face same formate of questions, when I sat for my exam on this Saturday I was a little sad because I got lots of fundamental questions that I haven't study for long!! but I kept on going, lots of SATA, math ( thank God I am good at it), came home , did the PearsonVue trick and got the good pop up, got my quick result this morning and I PASS!!!! I wanted to thank ncsbn for being soooo reliable and dependable. So for my fellow nclex taker here is my study strtegy, if you know your nursing basics and practice and understand these 1000 questions from ncsbn learning extension, then you will pass your board, have faith, we have the power of knowledge and its time to apply it!!!!Kiss

I took the 3 week online RN course and found it to be very organized and easy to navigate. I took my RN boards 2 times before studying for my 3rd with this program. I've tried about everything there is out there. I started out using the Kaplan review online that costs $500.00 and guarentees that you pass or your money back, needless to say I got my money back. The second time I used random study NCLEX- RN books which seemed to help but there was something missing. This time I went into it feeling a little down and unsure if I could even be a nurse. I started this program 3 weeks out and read through all of the testimonials to see how I should approach this. I found that reading through all of the topics word-for - word and taking the post quizzes worked for me. **** I also read EACH and EVERY rationale**** that was the most important. I completed every step of the program and that is what got me thinking on track and kept me thinking the way I needed to inorder to get the questions right. I also used Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment: Practice Exercises for the NCLEX Examination by Linda A. LaCharity Ph.D..  It was very helpful! You must stay positive tell yourself " I am going to do this, I am smart!" each and everyday. Remain stress free.

Question after question, study rationales (write down...1100%

I took the 3 week review class on the NCSBN website, but I ended up paying for an additional 3 weeks because I changed the date of my test. You will know when you are ready. Be honest with yourself, you and only you know if you have been giving studying your all. I was procrastinating in the beginning and did not feel ready on July 7th (I went on a camping trip the last week of June and then with the 4th of July holiday weekend, I lost a lot of study time). I knew that I had not been studying the way I should have been in order to be successful on the NCLEX, so I rescheduled for July 22nd and told myself I was not allowed to change the date again.

I used the NCSBN website and a book by Kaplan called NCLEX-RN Strategies for the Registered Nursing License Exam. I only read the strategies in the Kaplan book. I did not do any questions that came with the book. After reading Kaplan, I then began to use the NCSBN website. I did the pretest and was so discouraged (I received a 66%). I read all 4 of the first modules and took notes on the things I did not know or had forgotten from nursing school. I did the posttest for each module. I also made sure to pay special attention and read the entire module for 6, which is pharmacology. I did every posttest, and all the comprehensive reviews at the end (I believe there are 5). I wrote down the rationales for the ones that I did not know, and I would carry them with me and read them while I was waiting in line or waiting at the doctor's office. I would apply the strategies from the Kaplan book to help answer the questions that I was unsure of .

Everyone told me not to study the day before the exam. I have always studied up until the very time I have to take an exam. I planned on studying the day before, but life had other plans for me. I did not study at all the day before the exam. I read over some notes as I was falling asleep. I prayed harder that night than I have in the past year. I set my alarm and woke up early the next morning and finished the last set of questions on the NCSBN review. Skimmed the rationales that I had wrote down. It was time.

I felt so nervous on my way to take the exam. Just writing about increases my pulse rate. The people at the Pearson Vue testing center were amazing. They were so nice that just talking to them calmed me down. I sat down at the computer and began the tutorial. I was watching the clock on the screen (it took me 10 minutes to make it through the tutorial). Once I actually started answering questions, I decided to close the clock because it was adding to my anxiety. The format of the questions was very similar to the NCSBN review. My anxiety level dropped significantly after the first few questions. I felt like I was at home studying for the NCLEX, not taking it. I used the Kaplan strategies for harder questions. I would reword the question and for the SATA (select all that apply) I would pick the topic out of the question and then turn each statement into a true or false question. That is the best strategy I have found to tackle those SATA questions. It really works.

I finished the test in 55 minutes with 75 questions. I kept a tally of my SATA on the board they provide me. I had 20 SATA. I was so nervous that I failed. I had no idea how long I had been in there. I had no watch or cell phone. I went to leave the building and I could not find my car. I parked in the South parking lot but when I left the building I exited to the North parking lot. I finally find my car and when I looked at the clock in the car it was 3:22 pm. My anxiety level increased again. How could I have passed, I must have failed and that's why it turned off at 75 questions. I did the Pearson Vue trick as soon as I got home. I got the good pop up. I ended up paying for my unofficial results even though I said I wouldn't, and I had passed.

I would like to thank the NCSBN for such a wonderful review course. I also believe that God played a big part in my success and would like to thank him. I believe that we are all vessels, and God works miracles through us. He blesses the hands and minds of every healthcare professional so that we may help those in need. Thanks for reading my story.

I took this review course to prepare for NCLEX and it was the only review curse I took. I took the NCLEX on 4/14/2011 and I received my RN license in the mail on 04/20/2011. It took me 2 hours and 8 minutes to finish 75 questions.

To prepare the NCLEX, I studied all the questions and rationales, especially the rationales. I made sure that I understood why it was right answer and why the rest were wrong answers. Ms. Susan has been wonderful, she explained everything for me that I would choose a different answer.

I highly recommend this online review. If it helped me to pass the NCLEX, I am sure it will help you to pass as well. When you are taking the NCLEX, please do not rush. You have 6 hours to work on 75 questions, why speed up to work on 265 questions.

I wanted to thank to the people who work tirelessly to create this review course for us. You have made a difference in my life. Ms. Suan, I appreciated you. I will always do.

Good luck to everyone. You will be a RN someday very soon.

I took nclex 3x and went to 265- 6hours every time, was forced to take a remedial course and do 3000 questions. i was really upset about that, but it made me learn that, that was the key, the more questions you do and I mean over 5000 like every teacher of mine said and i laughed ya right. but they were right, i got to the point where i didnt mind doing the questions at first 10 in a row then 15-20-40-50-100-15- and that was my limiot except 180 for a exam that determined my weakness.... so i did this daily and also studied Hurst content and content on ncsbn... also did every question on ncsbn and from apprentice hall, saunders cd and read the kaplan strategy book religiously and did questions and assessment test... i spent sooo much money did ncsbn over 3-4 times hurst 5x and mind you it took me two years to pass.... granted i took a little break and went full force this january made my test day feb 4 i gave myself 3 1/2 weeks to study and wrote a calander of my expectations for each day, review each subject then do questions on that subject, that last few days up to the test i did review and random questions and assessments scored consistently in 65% range...... then the last night i relaxed yes i did do some question and also i use to take every exam nclex at 8am had no choice but wen i passed my lpn without opening a book i took that exam at 1pm, so my 4th nclex rn exam was scheduled for 2pm, this gave mwe time and thats when i studied at home for 1 month so i was strongeswt mentally then. and what do you know i passed with 75!!!!!! i think alot of students look tooo deeply into the questions and wan to know it all, sure we dont know what they will ask, but i think importance is safety and infection control and also proper techniques of patients in order to see them sso thats why i bought lacharity book, i really hope this works for you. this time i exercised and did bootcamp workoutw 4-5 times a week lots of running to keep my mind focused and it really helped, before i was lazy and didnt exercise, exercising helps your mind clears it and refreshes it, i hope i could give you sum advice. also be selfish these few weeks u study engulf yourself into it, sure take a day off if u can or half a day but i studied adn listend to lectures 3-4 hours a day and did questions every day where it was natural, discipline urself, the pay off in the end is worth it, you know this!!! its what we all want and have worked so hard for apply yourself... its the only way to succedd, what ever your ind can conceive your body can achieve, my fav quote from Harold who helped me in this study group..... thank you to all my online and fb friends...... you will succeed remain positive!!!!!!!!! if u want it you can achieve it!

Everyone here should please join me to thank God, He is the one who gave me the rightful link, gave me the strenght and led me to the success.

I enrolled into NCSBN confused and heartbroken. I got relieved when i met Susan, the NSCBN staff online. She really understood with me and promised to direct me well to her best, which she continue untill i made it.

I enrolled for 5 weeks and religiously used the materials, this course helped me expecially on infection control and management of care. I said mostly because i was no where for this two sections before i enrolled into NCSBN.

The question bank looks like the real thing, please always know why you missed an answer and also read each rational whether you get it or not.

Please, if you are a first time nclex taker do not enrol for only 3weeks, i would recommend 5, 7, or more weeks, so that you will be able to finish all the material thoroughly without rushing them.

I also used one book by La charity, it is a priority, delegation & assignment book ( mainly for management of care], it  is a very good Nclex book.

I studies for 5 months before i took the test, gradually i utilized my time with other house activities and my kids. please always have focus and work very hard to make this a reality. Be prayerful and do good to people even those you dont know.

Susan helped me alot, sometime i began to have pity on her because i disturb her alot with lots of questions.

Im so happy and proud to tell my friends about ncsbn course andn this forum helping other nurses. It took me time to pass this time but i laughed at the end, so do not relent and never you quit, continue you will make it very very soon.

Be happy as you read this long story and remain bless.

    Goodluck all.

I PURCHASED THE 3 WEEK ONLINE COURSE THANKS TO A FRIENDS REFERRAL, STUDIED IT EVERYDAY. I MOSTLY MADE SURE THAT I DID THE PRETEST AND ALL OF THE EXAMS IN BETWEEN FAITHFULLY. HONESTLY I UTILIIZED THE TESTING MATERIALS MORE THAN ANYTHING. I REALLY DID NOT GO OVER MANY OF THE REVIEWS I THOUGHT IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT FOR ME TO DO THE QUESTIONS AND RATIONALS. I FINISHED UP WITH THE POSTTEST ON FRIDAY NOV.5, 2010 AND SAT FOR MY BOARDS NOV.8, 2010 I GOT 75Q AND MY THOUGHT WAS EITHER I FAILED MISERABLY OR I PASSED. LOW AND BEHOLD BY THE GRACE OF GOD TODAY I FOUND OUT THAT I PASSED!!!!!!!  I REALLY DO NOT THINK THAT I WOULD OF HAD SUCCESS IF IT WERE NOT FOR THIS PROGRAM THE QUESTIONS WERE VERY SIMILAR TO NCLEX AND REALLY BROUGHT IT HOME FOR ME.  I WILL SUGGEST THIS COURSE TO ALL THAT I KNOW WHO ARE PREPARING FOR BOARDS I FOUND IT TO BE VERY HELPFUL!!! MUCH SUCCESS LFRANKERN
