Foreign Nurse passed NCLEX-RN in first attempt1

Moved to US more than a year ago. Worked 10 years as RN outside home country. Stopped working for 5 years now. Took short Nursing CEU courses like ECG interpretation and Advance Nursing Knowledge Series to refresh my mind and begin the process of review even before I applied to take NCLEX-RN. Bought materials and online course. Started reviewing 2-3 months before my scheduled test. Plays tennis regularly 2-3x a week minimum. Stopped playing 2 days before the test date. Stopped studying a day before. Took the practice tests NCSBN and the ones included in my books. Pretest always horrible scores but was diligent to review my mistakes and see the rationales. Most of all, prayed hard with family and friends that I pass this test if it is God's will for me to go back to Nursing... And to give God all the glory :-) This test that I took last July 22, 2010 was the most challenging and humbling test I took. I cried out to God and trusted His promise to me that He got it ! All He asked of me is study and leave the rest up to Him. I trusted in Him though the test grabbed my self confidence. But the Lord is merciful and faithful. Praise God. Now I am a Florida license RN :-) More course and tests to come but I know God will be there for me. Keep the faith and motivation to study. Exercise helped me de-stress too.

    Just Passed NCLEX-RN!!!

Hi Everyone! I just want to share my strategy that works for me and maybe it can help you too.

    1. I study 8 hours or more a day 2 months before my exam: 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. Upon rising I always take Prentice Hall Study Question as my breakfast and do have 25 Study before going to bed.

    2. I do practice test on analysis and application by "Prentice Hall" and "Saunders". Believe me I always got below 70% and I rarely got 80% above. I just dont mind it and just do practice and practice 25 Study questions and do 100 or 265 Practice Exam weekends.

    3. Make your own flash card on MUST know in NCLEX: DRUGS, ENDOCRINE, RESPI, CARDIO and INFECTION CONTROL. Bring it anywhere you go. Enjoy using PNEUMONICS! On the last 2 weeks, I used "La CHArity"Grab this book coz it helps alot for Management of Care to which has the highest percentage in the exam coverage.

    4. I do workout at 5 PM- 7PM everyday or every other day. It rejuvinates me and make my brain active. Always have a short break when studying at least 2-5 minutes, take a walk and meditate.

    5. Eat Healthy and have a good sleep at least 7-8 hours.

    6. The most is I always give time to GOD and worship him during sabbath day. No study sessions whole day and just singing and listening gospel musics and Pray. "I always remember GOD's favorite day and keep it a special only for him". FAITH helps alot so dont rely on purely believing on your own confidence. Always acknowledge GOD's gift for our knowledge and wisdom.

Hope this help. God Bless to NCLEX takers

    I Passed the NCLEX

I passed the NCLEX and this is how I did it:

    • Studied long and hard for months - at least 6 months or more
    • Did lots of Q&A - read all the rationales and I mean ALL
    • Read Saunders and Kaplin NCLEX review books - for different strategies and content
    • Formed a small study group - no more 2-3 people keep the group small with people who have the same goal in mind, TO PASS
    • Know your medication suffixes and calculations - make a chart or something to help you remember what they are
    • I did this review - do the 5 to 8 weeks, 3 weeks is to short it's a lot of material to cover
    • Read every question very carefully and take your time

When you put all together the possibilities are endless but STUDY, STUDY, STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!!!!Hope this helps you as much as it did me.

    I PASSED THE NCLEX!!!!!!!1

    Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I took my NCLEX in GA on Tuesday Feb 23rd and found out Thursday Feb 25th that I PASSED!!!!!  This was my second time taking it and I know this tutorial played a huge part in my success next to praying and some really great nursing friends who also helped me study.  Stay focused and positive, you can do it!!!  If you do nothing else with this tutorial, at the very least complete every practice test.  Read the rationales when you get the questions wrong and make sure you understand why you missed the question.  Also make sure you read the rationales even when you do answer the question correctly. This is a great way to study.  Dont panic when the test does not shut off at 75 questions for you.  I got 234 questions the first time and 222 questions the second time and PASSED!!! Pace yourself and please, PLEASE, take breaks during the NCLEX exam. You might be surprised how a quick bathroom break, a snack and a drink of water can refresh your mind during a high stress situation like the NCLEX.  Make sure you study and know your lab values and read the questions carefully.  You can do it!!! You are intelligent, you made it through nursing school, and you will get your license.   Best of luck to all of you.

    Nicole

    NCLEX Prep...2
Study Strategy posted Feb 18 by AliciaCelebrity in My Study Strategy public

    Hello everyone,

This is how I prepared for NCLEX and hope it's helpful for someone:

    1. Practice as many NCLEX ( analysis/application) type questions as possible b/c these questions test your critical thinkings skills which is what you need in order to pass the NCLEX.

    2. Use as many resources as you can e.g. (Saunders, Mosby, Exam cram, NCLEX 3500, NCSBN online review)....once you practice questions, then review the sections that you scored lowest in with a content review book like Saunders (it's really helpful).

    3. Set out a study plan and stick to it: Make a goal to complete about a 100-200 questions a day for about a good 2 months or whatever's comfortable for you. NO matter what, do not put off studying, stick to it, make sacrifices b/c it will truly be worth it once you get that RN license....the more you practice answering and using your critical thinking skills, the better chances you have at passing...also, make sure to review the rationales of correct and incorrect answers, it serves as a good study guide...and make sure to stay AWAY from negative people b/c that will only hurt your focus...

    4.  In summary: study smart and work hard, stay committed, be positive, keep praying... and give your absolute best and you will be successful....God bless to you all!!!
